Let’s Make A Pie From Scratch: The Topping – Meringue

It’s my final pie blog! With the information I have provided you young padawans you should be able to venture forth and make a whole pie from scratch. Now let’s get down to some baking!

3 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
6 tablespoons sugar


Beat egg whites with vanilla and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.

Gradually add sugar and keep beating until stiff and glossy peaks form; Sugar should be completely dissolved

It should end up looking something like this

Now you will spread the meringue over the pie, being sure to seal the edges which means you are making sure the meringue goes right up into the edge of the pie crust.

Take a spoon and make little peaks all over the pie so it looks something like the photo above.

Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes until meringue is golden.

There you have pie!
